Not certain if this fits under “Petrolheads”, but the Renault Zoe e-Sport concept is a really cool little electric sportscar. It was unveiled in this years Geneva Motor Show and let’s hope it makes production as it appears here.
As opposed to the rather “meh” regular Zoe this version does 0-100 in 3.2 secs, that is Lamborghini Huracán performance. The original Zoe has one engine and front wheel drive, this one has 4X4 with two engines and one battery per wheel. This adds up to 460 bhp and a top speed of 210 km/h, top speed is obtained in about 10 seconds.
It has a chassis made of steel tubes and a body of carbon fibre. This gives a total weight of 1400 kg, which includes 460 kg of batteries. It is a two seater with a rolling cage already installed.
The car has different selectable driving profiles, stretching from track mode with full power to more normal daily driver mode where range is prioritized.
Renault has not said much about this car going to production or not, so your money is safe for now. But it has potential, this is maybe the only kind of car out there for “petrolheads” in ten years or so. For those of us who aren’t Nico Prost, and will never have the pleasure of driving a French performance concept EV, the Zoe e-Sport is something for us to dream about. For Renault, it’s a demonstration of what the company can do with electric cars, and shows that even the simple Zoe can be turned into something fun. I know what I would go for if the alternative was a self-driving regular car. This is a fine example of just how drool-worthy EVs can be.
